Aaand I would have replied to that last comment by AppleGrassxx but it seems she's blocked me. Lovely.
Just to get some closure on that one and APOLOGIES for a big clutter-y argument on your deviation but my reply WOULD have been:
They're both Matt Smith in profile. I don't see how they COULD look that different. She hasn't stolen an idea or my artwork. I didn't need you to come over to my page and insult this poor artist who is obviously cool. Your approach to informing me of possible theft (I suppose that's what your goal was?) was inappropriate and tasteless.
Thanks but no thanks on that follow.

I'll leave this alone now and apologies again.

Hey Isabel, please ignore the comments of Miss AppleGrass. I really like your silhouettes, you do some really impressive hand-cut work.

Hi AppleGrassxx,

Thanks so much for your comment. As an artist, I am very aware of art theft. There have been several instances on deviantArt where others have re-posted my art as their own and it is quite upsetting each and every time. Because of this I always credit those artists whose work I use as inspiration. There are a few early pieces in my gallery where I have used free templates or reference images from other artists that are then linked back to their original sources. This way, credit is given where credit is due.

I am a huge fan of :icongirl-on-the-moon:'s work and had absolutely no intention of stealing her art. The art of silhouette design has been around for hundreds of years. Over this time, I imagine many public figures and celebrities have had their portraits done in silhouette by many different artists. I always love seeing the different interpretations that come across through different artists and techniques -- it's a great way to see individual characters and people from several perspectives, even in something as minimal as an image of their profile.

In terms of :icongirl-on-the-moon:'s silhouettes being "a lot better," I think it is also interesting to see how many different forms of silhouette design have emerged over the years. Across history, silhouettes have been painted, photographed, cut with scissors, and have cropped up through many different artistic mediums. Through my understanding, it seems that :icongirl-on-the-moon: uses digital means to create silhouettes, providing a clean, detailed, and very concise designs.

However, I choose to cut my silhouettes by hand, using black cardstock and scissors/an X-Acto knife. Because of the materials I choose to use, it's often more difficult to cut some of the fine lines as seen in digitally produced or laser cut silhouettes. Over time, I hope that my technique will allow me to replicate some of the finer details of digital work, but for now, I'm just working my way to that point!

Hope this makes you feel a bit better and thanks again for being on the lookout for misrepresented art on the site. If you would like to discuss anything further, feel free to drop me a note!

All the best,

Isabel

I am so sorry about that. I feel really guilty. It's just I've had my work stolen in the past. Please hide my comments, the only resin I wrote that is because my iPad only loaded the doctor and both yours and hers look nearly identical. I am so so sorry thanks for being so nice about it

WOAH. WOAH. LET'S NOT GO HATIN'.
These silhouettes are LOVELY and I hardly have a copyright on the idea. The wonderful Isabel, who works VERY HARD as I can see, can do whatever the hell she likes. She's not stealing my artwork. LAY OFF.
Who the F*CK are you to insult someone and then drop my name like you're on my side of some shitstorm YOU'RE provoking?
I don't have words for what I think of this kind of behaviour. Are we children? "So-n'-so did it better than you! Nyaaa! Yours stiiiiinks!" And then you hurry over to my account and link me back here so I can see you being an ass? REALLY LADY? CUZ NO.
Keep it up Isobel, you do some good work.

So glad you noticed the tie! It's a little detail that I felt was really important to my idea of the Doctor :)

Of course I noticed the tie. ;P You really can't have the 11th Doctor without it.
